Murder-on-the-Mind-MysteryL. L. Bartlett has taken her Jeff Resnick series to an interesting twist with Murder on the Mind. And that twist is adding in a paranormal world for the insurance investigator hero of this series.

Mystery with a Twist

After Resnick is attacked and left with a blow to his skull, he is forced to stay with his estranged brother for his recovery. Although, the doctors believed he had brain damage, Resnick thinks he has gained a sixth sense instead. He has a nightmare that foreshadows an actual murder.

But the tension doesn’t stop there. While Resnick tries to piece together the clues of this murder, he discovers more about his own traumatic past with his brother. Don’t you know, all of this leads him to be danger himself. Our hero must try to stay one step ahead of the killer. He also has to convince the police his knowledge is from psychic abilities and not involvement in the murder itself.

An Engaging Mystery with All the Clues

Author Bartlett does a great job in Murder on the Mind of giving us a good mystery to follow all the clues. There are turns and red herrings in this story, but you get to know interesting and believable characters. I was hooked from the first page and had a hard time putting it down. Bartlett had me engaged all the way to satisfying conclusion. Even though she added the paranormal twist to this story, it never went over the edge into the frightening. Instead it kept me spell bound into the world of Jeff Resnick and his investigative abilities.

Without a doubt, I am intrigued by this series. Bartlett’s writing ability has me hooked. I want to read more of what she has written, including her Victoria Square Mystery series.  Who knows, we might all get lucky and I will have that one ready to review next time.
